About the role

In Department 71 – Animal Husbandry and Animal Breeding Law, specialists develop practical recommendations for agricultural operations, focusing on animal husbandry, feeding, breeding, and process engineering. Through experimental research and scientific collaborative projects, new knowledge is generated, prepared, and disseminated to practitioners via advisory services and training. The department also fulfills regulatory tasks in animal breeding law and herd protection consulting.

Responsibilities

• Advise dairy farmers on milking technology, milking processes, and milk quality, and facilitate knowledge transfer on innovations and energy efficiency in milk production.
• Support dairy farmers in implementing requirements of the Raw Milk Quality Ordinance at the farm level.
• Coordinate regional milk performance testing and collaborate with colleagues in the field.
• Participate in the regulatory oversight of milk performance testing under animal breeding law.
• Inspect stationary and mobile milk quantity measuring devices and conduct initial acceptance of newly installed milking technology.
• Perform energy consultations on dairy farms, create energy scans, and assist farmers with funding applications.
• Contribute to inter-company training at Haus Düsse and in continuing education courses.
• Serve as a contact person for the VFTT Breeders' Association.

Requirements

• Completed university degree in agricultural science or agricultural economics with a focus on animal husbandry (Bachelor or Diplom) by the time of appointment, or an equivalent degree relevant to the role’s focus areas.
• Practical experience in agriculture and animal husbandry is required.
• Knowledge of dairy cattle husbandry, milking technology, milk performance testing, and improving energy efficiency is desirable.
• Basic knowledge of indoor farming technology and data collection in agricultural operations is required.
• Experience in advising agricultural businesses is preferred.
• Strong teamwork skills, resilience, and a structured, goal-oriented, and independent work approach.
• Excellent communication skills and a high degree of customer orientation.
• Good German language skills; good English language skills are advantageous.
• A Class B driver’s license.
