About the role
We are looking for a Compensation & Benefits Specialist to support employee benefits administration for a nonprofit organization in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This contract opportunity has the potential to become permanent and is ideal for someone who is organized, service-focused, and comfortable managing benefit activity with a high level of accuracy. The person in this role will help employees understand their options, ensure benefit records remain current, and contribute to a smooth enrollment experience throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day administration of employee benefit offerings, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary plans.
- Manage benefit enrollment activity for new employees, employee status updates, qualifying life events, and offboarding changes while maintaining accurate records.
- Lead annual open enrollment support by preparing communications, assisting with employee education, and updating benefit elections in applicable systems.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions related to coverage, eligibility, plan options, provider access, and claims concerns.
- Coordinate with insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators to resolve benefit issues and support timely transaction processing.
- Prepare and distribute benefit-related materials, conduct orientation sessions for new employees, and explain important deadlines and program details.
- Maintain organized documentation and audit benefit data regularly to verify accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
- Support compliance efforts by assisting with reporting, audits, and documentation required under applicable federal and state regulations.
- Generate reports, review system data for integrity, and help troubleshoot benefits administration issues as needed.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience in benefits coordination, benefits administration, or a related compensation and benefits support role.
- Working knowledge of employee benefit programs such as medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary plans.
- Experience supporting open enrollment and processing employee benefit changes with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to respond to employee questions clearly and professionally while handling sensitive information with discretion.
- Comfortable using HR or benefits systems for data entry, record maintenance, reporting, and basic issue resolution.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple transactions and deadlines accurately.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and a customer-service-oriented approach.
