About the Role
The Benefits Specialist assists with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and paid time off (PTO). This role manages leave administration and ensures compliance with federal regulations and legal mandates regarding healthcare benefits.
Responsibilities
- Help employees enroll in the various benefit programs for which they are eligible.
- Coordinate benefits for employees and providers, including open enrollment.
- Process all Leaves of Absence (FMLA, PLOA, etc.), maintain proper documentation, and respond to employee requests.
- Handle all inquiries regarding benefit plans.
- Co-facilitate monthly new employee orientation.
- Coordinate and verify payroll reports to ensure accuracy of employees’ deductions with the payroll coordinator.
- Prepare benefits-related termination paperwork (e.g., Certificates of Insurability).
- Process all Workers Compensation claims.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate degree in human resources, business management, or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- 2+ years’ experience in human resources (preferred).
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Willingness to train and learn a full range of skills related to the position.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
- Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint.
- Knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).
- Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
- Willingness to learn new software as needed.
- Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR).
Certifications
- Complete Safe From Harm training and keep it current as needed.
