Griffin Media’s Benefits/Human Resources Generalist helps drive the Ideal Team Player culture by coordinating HR functions, supporting employees, and ensuring effective implementation of HR policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
  • Assist employees with benefits enrollment and answer questions regarding benefits coverage.
  • Work with benefits providers to resolve issues and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Manage the annual open enrollment process, including creating communication materials, conducting informational sessions, and ensuring smooth and accurate enrollment.
  • Reconcile monthly benefit invoices to ensure accurate coverage information for all employees.
  • Review and approve weekly claims data.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local benefits regulations; update documentation and reports as required.
  • Serve as a helpful HR resource by responding to employee inquiries and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Support the recruitment process by attending career fairs and assisting with job postings.
  • Support new employee onboarding to ensure a smooth transition for new hires.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, including personnel files, benefit files, HR databases, and the HRIS system.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Support HR initiatives and projects, such as wellness, employee events, communications, and employee engagement.
  • Collaborate with the HR team to continuously improve HR processes and practices.
  • Promote a positive work environment and culture through employee initiatives.
  • Attend and participate in regular trainings and conferences to stay current on benefits, HR policies, and industry practices.
  • Support building operations, including employee parking and security.
  • Occasional travel between the Oklahoma City and Tulsa offices.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Related experience may substitute for years of education.
  • 2+ years of experience in human resources preferred, with a focus on benefits administration and generalist functions.
  • HR Certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred, showcasing a commitment to professional development.
  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency in using HRIS systems, Paycom preferred. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, primarily Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the company.
  • Ability to meet physical and mental requirements, including:
    • Verbal communication in English
    • Reading computer monitor information (words and data)
    • Hearing detailed spoken word
    • Remaining sedentary and traveling to work locations
    • Performing manual dexterity tasks with hands and fingers
    • Analyzing data, concentrating, reasoning, and writing
    • Performing under emotional stress
    • Lifting 25 pounds unaided

Schedule

This is a full-time position primarily working 40 hours per week. Occasional additional hours may be required to cover vacations, illnesses, breaking news, severe weather, or special projects/events. Remote work may be permitted on occasion at the supervisor’s discretion.
