The Division of Benefits and Medical Eligibility is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to supervise, plan, and coordinate the operations of one or more benefits and eligibility units involved in the determination and issuance of public assistance and/or social service benefits. This position is responsible for effective supervision and administration of the division’s eligibility program(s) staff, including staff development and training, succession planning, performance management, and related activities. This is an in-office position.
Responsibilities
- Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and adjust workloads.
- Interpret and clarify program policies and procedures for staff and implement regulations or policy changes affecting the day-to-day operation of the unit.
- Assist staff with difficult and complex cases, including providing consultation, handling some cases personally, making decisions on controversial cases, and consulting with senior management on recommended actions.
- Prioritize and assign work of assigned unit(s) to maintain compliance with federal, state, and mandates; ensure the timeliness and accuracy of services delivered; identify and resolve existing and potential problems according to agency policies and program goals.
- Conduct quality control and error management in eligibility services programs, including case reviews, evaluating accuracy, timeliness, and productivity; identify error trends, implement corrective action plans, and develop related training.
- Compile and review statistical data associated with unit activities from case records, logs, computer files, and other sources; prepare requested reports.
- Evaluate staffing needs, participate on hiring panels, and make recommendations for effective use of personnel resources.
- Assist with identifying suspected fraud cases, preparing summaries of facts for fraud and overpayment, representing the agency in hearings and court appeals, and taking appropriate action as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of federal, state, and agency statutes, rules, and regulations applicable to the area of assignment.
- Knowledge of fundamental leadership practices, interviewing and assessment techniques, community resources, and customer service practices.
- Skills in written and verbal communication to explain and interpret federal and state laws, statutes, rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ability to access, maintain, review, and interpret database information; compile and present program information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to identify, analyze, and evaluate situations or problems to determine appropriate courses of action.
- High school diploma or equivalent education and three years of experience performing eligibility work.
- If driving is required as an essential function, a valid driver’s license and successful background/reference check are required.
- All newly hired state employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Pay
$27.1065 per hour.
