Belt Operator - 2nd Shift

About the role

As a Belt Operator at Saputo, you will clean and operate the belt, drain whey from vats, test pH and TA’s, and transfer curd to the cooker. You will adhere to all USDA, GMP, and safety regulations while maintaining a clear, orderly, and safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Work in a safe manner and follow all safety procedures
• Collaborate effectively with other employees
• Keep accurate records and track recipe changes as product proceeds through the belt
• Clean belt and related systems
• Operate the belt efficiently to produce cheese within desired results
• Perform CIP (Clean-In-Place) on lines and equipment
• Troubleshoot equipment and cheese-making problems
• Maintain a clear, orderly, and neat work area
• Ensure a safe workplace, address safety concerns, and participate in the safety program
• Perform all other assigned duties

Food Safety Responsibilities

• Practice Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
• Apply appropriate food defense techniques

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• One to three months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Cheese-making experience or completion of a cheese-making short course
• Good communication, math, and statistical skills
• Good mechanical aptitude
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to resolve issues involving numerous variables in demanding situations

Physical Demands

• Stoop, kneel, and squat for several minutes at a time
• Stand on feet for at least two consecutive hours
• Lift up to 50 pounds
• Enter confined spaces
• Reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear
• Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Work in an environment with loud noises, powder particles, and risk of electrical/static shock

Work Environment

• Exposure to moving mechanical parts
• Occasionally damp and cold environment
• Use of caustic, acid, and chlorine chemicals that may emit fumes
• Wet and slippery floors
• Room temperatures ranging from 35°F to over 130°F
• Required use of safety glasses, ear plugs, dust masks, rubber gloves, rubber boots, and aprons

Pay

Hourly range: $29.63 - $34.91
