BEHAVIORAL TECHNICIAN (GRANT/SPECIAL FUNDS)

About the role

Assist in developing appropriate responses from designated students requiring behavior intervention by implementing specific plans on an individual, small group, or classroom basis, ensuring the safety and dignity of students and staff.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Collect data within the school environment.
  • Assist in data-gathering for Functional Behavior Assessments.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of behavioral programs, including behavioral support plans and intervention plans.
  • Aid staff in techniques needed to implement behavioral systems.
  • Shape and teach appropriate behavior to students.
  • Become available as needed by school staff.
  • Perform specific assignments by assisting in material preparation, clerical support, monitoring data, and supervising students.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Standard high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience working with behaviorally complex children, or an earned associate degree and two (2) years of experience.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work with behaviorally complex students.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.
  • Attend training in Positive Behavioral Supports and De-escalation strategies within six (6) months of employment.
  • Attend training in Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans within six (6) months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Bilingual skills.

Significant Contacts

  • Daily contact with the school principal or District supervisor, and designated students requiring behavior intervention.

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment

  • Salary and benefits consistent with the District's approved compensation plan.
  • Length of the work year and hours of employment established by the School Board.
