Behavioral Medicine Psychological Assistant
About the Role
Provides mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention under supervision of licensed psychologists or psychiatrists. Collaborates with healthcare teams to develop and evaluate individualized treatment plans for adults and children with diverse mental health needs.
Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical treatment programs, including outpatient psychotherapy for individuals, families, and groups. Performs psychological assessments, administers tests, and maintains confidential records in compliance with regulations.
Collaborates with physicians for medication evaluation and offers consultation to other care providers. Provides psychoeducational classes, family support, and community resource referrals.
Supervises and trains psychology interns and residents, and confers with supervisors regarding patient progress. Utilizes evidence-based practices, maintains ethical standards, and ensures quality of care. Reports safety concerns to mandated agencies as needed.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Clinical, Counseling, Health, or School Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a minimum 1-year psychology internship (1500 hours).
- Psychologist license (California) within 24 months of hire and registration as a Psychological Assistant at hire.
- Knowledge of DSM-V, psychological testing, evidence-based practices, and mental health treatment modalities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience with psychological testing, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and therapy preferred.
