About the role

The Position Incumbent works under the direction of the Psychiatric Outpatient Program (POP) Program Manager or designee, performing medical assistant and clerical duties for patients eligible to receive services in the Outpatient Clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in providing patient treatment in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
  • Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, performing and recording screening procedures (e.g. height, weight, blood pressure, vital signs, urinalysis).
  • Prepare patients for appointment, informing the clinic nurse or physician of pertinent information obtained during the screening procedures.
  • Aid during appointment and treatment procedures. Perform venipuncture procedures.
  • Prepare samples and specimens with strict adherence to established safety regulations.
  • Prepare medication refill requests for medical provider authorization, forwarding refill authorizations to the pharmacy.
  • Comply with CMHC standards and accreditation, and state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Answer calls, greet patients, and schedule clinic appointments.
  • Update and maintain medical records and electronic health records.
  • Requisition supplies and work orders.
  • Follow universal safety precautions, protecting self and patients.
  • Crosstrain with other CMHC programs and provide program services.
  • Triage potential patients requesting outpatient clinic services.
  • Attend to client service requests, maintaining productivity.
  • Recognize CMHC provides services to trauma experienced individuals.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Provide and promote a positive image of CMHC.
  • Report to assigned work location with regular, consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year of relevant experience required.
  • Current completion of nationally recognized Medical Assistant Program AND Current nationally recognized Medical Assistant Certification or able to obtain within six (6) months of hire and maintained through employment required.
  • Current Medication Aide Certification and maintained through employment required.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Respiration (CPR), first aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within 6 months of hire required.
  • Clerical experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience working in behavioral health preferred.
  • Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of work experience and education may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Work is generally performed in an office setting.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
  • Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. days, hours, overtime/extra hours).
  • Work involves potential exposure to biohazards and risk for injury.
  • Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources and uncooperative/irate individuals.
  • Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of walking, standing, frequent reaching, and occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching and bending.
  • Work also requires the ability to frequently lift and/or carry objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch.
  • Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges.
  • Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
