Behavioral Health Technician Full-time 2nd shift

About the role

The Behavioral Health Technician assists in providing a safe environment for individuals, answers clients’ questions, helps adjust program routines, and reports any changes in the client’s physical or mental condition. The role emphasizes client safety and well-being through supervision and support.

Responsibilities

• Records inventory log of all personal belongings, valuables, and return tickets (kept in a safe).
• Completes required lab requisitions per protocol.
• Monitors clients at all times, including specific rounds and logging clients' whereabouts.
• De-escalates client issues, including AMA (Against Medical Advice) situations.
• Participates in all scheduled staff meetings.
• Ensures garbage is disposed of properly throughout shifts.
• Monitors group room cleanliness after each activity.
• Hands off necessary information to the next shift technician and maintains a logbook for continuity of care.
• Attends required staff training.
• Supervises clients completing the program with an emphasis on safety and well-being.
• Reminds clients of program rules and regulations and reports infractions immediately.
• Provides emotional support for clients while referring them to therapy staff for clinical issues.
• Completes assigned paperwork in a neat, timely, and accurate manner.
• Communicates with other staff to promote quality client care.
• Participates in maintaining clean, properly supplied, and efficient work areas.
• Observes and reports safety and maintenance problems.
• Interacts appropriately with clients, showing respect while maintaining boundaries.
• Maintains a professional demeanor and exercises sound judgment.
• Seeks assistance to effectively manage client behavior, including suicidal concerns and trauma-related issues.
• Protects the privacy of all client information in accordance with facility policies.
• Transports clients as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED (preferred).
• Experience working in substance abuse and/or mental health (preferred).
• Valid state driving license with no major violations in the past five (5) years.

Work Environment

This position requires working in a temperature-controlled environment, with 80%-90% of time spent indoors. Potential exposure to violent situations, airborne/blood-borne pathogens, or other potentially infectious materials. Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, stooping/kneeling, reaching, and pushing.
