Behavioral Health Technician / BH Inpatient

About the role

Provides care for the comfort, safety, and personal needs of patients. Acts as an advocate for patients’ needs and rights, offering empathic, active listening, engagement, and support. Supports case management and ensures a recovery-oriented environment throughout the unit. Additionally, provides indirect unit support related to supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Connects with new participants, on-site or while the participant is incarcerated or hospitalized, to obtain referral information and necessary solutions.
• Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
• Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, the environment, and to meaning and purpose).
• Assesses emergency situations, notifies supervisor of actual or potential challenges, exercises judgment in stressful conditions, and responds calmly and quickly.
• Completes clinical documentation as required.
• Develops and maintains community resources for education, information, and referrals appropriate to participants’ needs.
• Understands and adheres to the organization’s compliance standards as outlined in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.
• Communicates with other team members on care plans as an active team member.
• Provides assistance to nurses with accompanying patients to the restroom when needed.
• Proactively utilizes de-escalation techniques to prevent harm.
• Assists with linen changes and room/unit restocking.
• Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Healthcare student or comparable work experience in a healthcare environment (preferred).
• Minimum of 18 years of age (required).

Skills and Abilities

• Excellent communication and behavioral management skills that promote safety.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to problem-solve.
• Ability to document per regulatory guidelines.
• Effective communication skills.

Licenses and Certifications

• BLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association (upon hire, required).
• Safety-Care Specialist (within 60 days, required).

Schedule

Monday–Tuesday–Wednesday, day shift.
