About the role

Copper Springs in Avondale, Arizona, is a 72-bed behavioral health hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services for adults, adolescents, and their families. The facility provides a range of treatments for mental health and addiction issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the therapeutic milieu under the direction of the RN by ensuring scheduled programs are delivered, supervising patients, maintaining safety, and treating patients and guests with dignity.
  • Observes and maintains a safe environment through regular patient checks, safety monitoring, contraband searches, and one-on-one supervision as needed.
  • Performs delegated tasks such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, documenting care, assisting with group education, and monitoring patients.
  • Promotes a positive therapeutic milieu and accompanies patients to meals, breaks, off-unit visits, and appointments.
  • Reports all medical or psychiatric changes to the RN and assists with admissions, including belongings inventory and vital signs.
  • Documents patient property at admission and discharge and conducts unit safety checks each shift to ensure a clean, therapeutic environment.
  • Encourages or assists patients with activities of daily living and facilitates or co-facilitates psychoeducational and therapeutic groups using established guidelines.
  • Applies crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed to maintain knowledge of program protocols.
  • Orients new staff members to the unit, documents in the medical record according to policy, provides feedback to the interdisciplinary team, complies with OSHA and CDC specimen guidelines, and performs duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma or GED
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Open to flexible work hours and overtime
  • BHT certification preferred
  • Previous experience in a psychiatric health-care facility with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric or geriatric patients preferred

Qualifications

  • CPR and de-escalation certifications within 30 days of hire

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle crisis situations effectively
  • Knowledge of mental health and addiction treatment principles
  • Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping
