About the role
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) assists and supports the Facility Director and all treatment program staff, coordinating and providing the day-to-day operational needs of the facility and its patients.
Responsibilities
- Aid in supervising patients' daily activities.
- Ensure patients follow the clinical schedule and communicate any issues to the treatment team.
- Transport clients (when applicable) as needed (Must have valid Driver's license).
- If eligible to drive, obey DMV, DOT rules, and safety regulations.
- Conduct vehicle and client safety checklists before transport.
- Securely transport client afternoon medications.
- Make continuous rounds to ensure overall safety.
- Observe and document all medications taken by clients.
- Seek out and report contraband immediately to supervisor.
- Proactively ensure facility rules and patient rights are upheld.
- Communicate and resolve housekeeping duties and building upkeep.
- Assist with room and area preparations for admissions and discharges.
- Foster a supportive environment that adheres to ethical treatment principles.
- Accept corrective criticism and evaluate suggestions objectively.
- Report personal and facility issues to supervisor.
- Solve problems independently and follow through.
- Communicate grievances, incidents, suspected abuse, neglect, trauma, or exploitation, safety issues, or breaches to supervisor.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Maintain up-to-date certification in CPR, Verbal De-Escalation, HIPAA, HIV/AIDS, Incident Reporting, Infection Control, Overdose Prevention, and Self-Administration of Medications (when applicable).
- Ability to work as a team member, have communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Work under stressful conditions and be flexible in relation to department needs.
- Knowledge of TJC standards within the Department.
- Proficiency in Verbal and written Communication Skills.
- Understanding of State and Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality Laws.
- Compliance with Drug Free Workplace Policies.
- Completion of Harassment and Discrimination training.
- Knowledge of Corporate Integrity and Compliance Program.
- Current knowledge of technology.
- Knowledge of Substance Use Disorder.
- Score above a 70% on the SUD Training.
- Knowledge of community resources and who to contact within the facility.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience in customer service, hospital, or treatment program setting.
- A minimum of five years driving experience and a Valid driver’s license and clear driving record approved by insurance carrier.
- Experience in the field of chemical dependency/substance abuse/psychiatric setting or human services field is preferred.
- Complete TB testing upon being hired.
- Undergo a Background consent and results prior to hire.
- Complete training or certifications in CPR, HIPAA, HIV/AIDS, Verbal De-Escalation, Incident Reporting, Infection/STD Risks, HEP B/C, and Abuse, Neglect, Trauma, and Exploitation, Understanding SUD, and any other training required by the State or the Joint Commission.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting.
- Frequent reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Working Conditions and Environment
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
- Indoor and outdoor environments as needed.
- Potential exposure to violent situations.
- No potential exposure to airborne/blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
