Behavioral Health Technician

About the Role

The Last Resort Recovery Center, nestled in the serene outskirts of Austin on a 55-acre ranch, offers a comprehensive range of treatment options for men and their families struggling with substance abuse. We integrate evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with holistic approaches, including our unique Equine Therapy program. We are seeking Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) to join our dynamic team. BHTs play a vital role in the overall functioning of the facility, ensuring the safety, well-being, and progress of our patients.

Responsibilities

• Assist in luggage and body searches
• Monitor and facilitate Book Studies and Recovery meetings
• Maintain awareness of patient locations, circulating the facility regularly, and document hourly checks
• Ensure patients follow the Bradford Program Schedule and are on time for assignments
• Supervise and facilitate patient activities as directed
• Ensure patients are in their rooms at designated times
• Oversee medication lines to prevent diversion and de-escalate situations
• Assist patients with mobility issues to and from activities, medication times, and meals
• Support counselors with documentation and patient engagement
• Adhere to all applicable policies and procedures
• Assist patients in overcoming denial and resistance to treatment
• Manage patient communities, redirect behavior, and document shift reports
• Attend staff training and programs as directed
• Drive patients to appointments and outings, and purchase patient sundries as needed
• Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
• Work in a constant state of alertness to ensure safety
• Cooperate with co-workers, managers, clients, and prospective clients
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Ability to communicate effectively and understand principles of chemical dependency recovery
• Physical ability to walk approximately 1 mile per 8-hour shift
• Ability to sit continuously for approximately 3 hours per 8-hour shift
• CPR certification
• Ability to see and hear constantly
• Emotional and physical capability to function under stressful situations
• Strong record-keeping and communication skills
• Ability to stand continuously in increments of 45 minutes to 1 hour
• If recovering, two years of continuous verifiable abstinence

Preferred Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Behavioral Science, CRC, or CRSS
• One year’s experience in alcohol/drug treatment with direct patient contact
