About the role
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) assists and supports the Facility Director and all treatment program staff in coordinating and providing the day-to-day operational needs of the facility and its patients. BHTs are responsible for assisting with scheduled monitoring and reporting of the facility's condition to ensure safe and orderly operations. They also assist with certain intake procedures, including obtaining data when a patient arrives at the facility, conducting searches and rounds, ensuring patient safety during treatment, and collaborating with treatment teams.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the supervision of patients' in their daily activities.
- Ensure patients follow the clinical schedule and communicate any issues to the treatment team.
- Transport clients (when applicable) as needed (Must have valid Driver's license).
- If applicable, obey DMV, DOT rules and safety regulations.
- Conduct vehicle and client safety checklists before transport or vehicle use.
- Make continuous rounds of the facility, rooms, and grounds to ensure overall safety.
- Conduct U/A's and other CLIA waived tests when required.
- Conduct Breathalyzer tests when required.
- Seek out contraband and report any suspicions or findings immediately to supervisor.
- Proactively ensure facility and patient rights are upheld.
- Communicate and resolve housekeeping duties and building/grounds maintenance.
- Aid in room and common area preparation for client admission and discharge.
- Foster a supportive environment for clients that adheres to ethical treatment principles.
- Seek corrective feedback and evaluate suggestions objectively.
- Report personal and facility incidents, suspected abuse/neglect/exploitation, safety issues, or breaches to supervisor.
- Independently solve problems and follow through.
- Function independently in a treatment program environment.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- Two years work experience in a hotel, customer service, hospital, or treatment program setting.
- A minimum of five years driving experience and a valid driver's license and clear driving record.
- Experience in the field of chemical dependency/substance abuse/psychiatric setting or human services field is preferred.
- Complete TB testing upon hiring.
- Undergo a background consent and results prior to hire.
- Complete required trainings, certifications, or competencies listed above, and any additional training required by the State or Joint Commission.
- If in personal recovery, must have a minimum of one year clean and sober.
