Behavioral Health Specialist II, BMCP-BIBT/BRT

Location: Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology (MOB 3430 Burnet), Brief Intensive Behavior Therapy Program. Full-time, day shift (1.0 FTE).

About the role

As a Behavioral Health Specialist II in the Brief Intensive Behavior Therapy Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, you will support children and adolescents in an outpatient behavior therapy setting. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to help patients build adaptive coping, communication, emotional regulation, and safety skills while contributing to a specialized outpatient program focused on safe, individualized, and evidence-informed behavioral care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct behavioral health support to patients in the Brief Intensive Behavior Therapy Program, implementing individualized behavioral interventions, therapeutic activities, and skill-building strategies as directed by the treatment team.
• Support patients with behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs in a structured outpatient setting.
• Help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff using proactive engagement, therapeutic communication, and de-escalation strategies.
• Respond to acute behavioral concerns in accordance with program expectations, patient-specific plans, training, and organizational policy.
• Support implementation of individualized care plans, behavioral protocols, and crisis support strategies; observe and document patient behavior, antecedents, responses to intervention, and progress toward goals.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, peers, psychologists, and other health team members; escalate changes in patient behavior, safety concerns, or care needs to licensed clinical providers.
• Participate in team discussions, care coordination, and treatment planning as appropriate.
• Build rapport with patients while maintaining professional boundaries using trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and patient-centered communication.
• Apply theoretical knowledge to patient care, demonstrating strong clinical skills, problem-solving, and priority setting.
• Complete accurate, timely documentation of patient observations, intervention responses, safety-related concerns, behavioral data, and required follow-up communication.
• Support data collection that informs treatment decisions and program quality.
• Triage incoming behavior support requests, determine clinic capacity in collaboration with the managing psychologist, and draft provider communications for psychologist review.
• Provide proactive and reactive behavior support directly to providers (medical, speech, OT, psychology) during appointments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of related behavioral health work experience for external hire consideration.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, peers, and health team members.
• Ability to apply behavioral health knowledge, problem-solving skills, and sound judgment in a clinical care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, education, behavioral health, human services, or a related field.
• Experience working with children or adolescents with behavioral, developmental, emotional, psychiatric, or neurodevelopmental needs.
• Experience implementing behavioral interventions, behavior support plans, skill acquisition strategies, or crisis prevention techniques.
• Experience in outpatient behavioral health, autism services, intensive behavior therapy, school-based behavioral support, residential treatment, or pediatric mental health care.
