Behavioral Health Specialist II

About the role

This position is responsible for providing psychosocial, rehabilitation and recovery-oriented services for adults under the administrative supervision of the Team Leader or Program Director. The position assists and advocates for members in meeting their expressed goals while living in the community, providing support in areas such as medication management, housing, counseling, and advocacy as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and direction for clients in the absence of the Program Director or designee
• Advocates for clients in all areas of treatment and helps them apply for and receive services, empowering them to meet their goals
• Supports individual service plans for each client and maintains all client records, completing required documentation and data entry according to program standards
• Meets regularly with clients at various sites, including homes, job sites, and board and care facilities
• Consults with or meets regularly with the client’s family, care provider, or other significant persons with client consent
• Coaches clients in developing social skills, money management, personal hygiene, and job readiness
• Assists in establishing client eligibility for benefits and advocates for continuation of benefits when appropriate
• Develops financial management plans for clients receiving Representative Payee Services and authorizes expenditures
• Provides on-the-spot counseling and interacts productively within the team to provide holistic case management services
• Drives on program business using a personal vehicle for various purposes, including medication outreach and transporting clients to appointments
• Attends to the safety, health, and wellbeing of clients and completes paperwork in a timely manner

Qualifications

A typical way of obtaining the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is through graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field, and four years of varied experience as a provider of direct mental health services. Minimum requirements include 0-2 years of mental health experience.

Skills and Certifications

• California driver’s license
• Current vehicle insurance and registration
• Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old
