Brief Description

The Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for engaging youth through trust-based relationship building, early identification of behavioral health needs, and connection to appropriate mental health services.

Qualifications

  • BHS I - Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • BHS II - Two-year's experience as a BHS I or Master of Arts or Master of Science degree from an accredited graduate program with major in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, or other related degree required.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Knowledge of community resources preferred.
  • Bilingual required.
  • A valid California driver’s license is required of staff who have regular driving duties, and the driving record must meet the requirements of their position and be approved by the agency’s insurance company.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operate an agency or personal vehicle for work-related activities which may include, client visits, meetings, trainings, or other agency-related appointments.
  • Ensure compliance with driving requirements, including maintaining a valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and proof of insurance as required by agency policy.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in oral and written form.
  • Ability to instruct in group and individual settings.
  • Physical, mental, and emotional health adequate to perform duties.
  • Must possess knowledge of mental health programs and community resources.
  • Adhere to all applicable legal and ethical standards.
  • Protect and honor individual integrity through confidentiality.
  • Able to work in a harmonious manner with subordinates, supervisors, and others.
  • Able to work effectively with cultural/ethnic diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide access, advocacy, resources and linkage to clients.
  • Attend community events, provide outreach services to include identifying areas that need to be strengthened, in addition to setting and reaching targeted goals.
  • May need to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Administer program measurement tools and surveys to track and report program data and outcomes.
  • Interact productively within a multi-disciplinary team and other community organizations.
  • Maintain record and tracking systems that meet standards of the agency, The Joint Commission and contract.
  • Responsible for preventing and controlling infection.
  • Responsible for maintaining a culture of quality and safety.
  • Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.
  • Properly administer the C-SSRS to help prevent suicide.
  • Interaction is appropriate and sensitive to client’s culture.
  • Interaction is appropriate with client’s developmental level.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Base Pay: $21.00-$28.38/hour
