Responsibilities

  • Counsels and documents patient observations at specified intervals.
  • Monitors patients using surveillance equipment continuously.
  • Performs routine environmental safety inspections.
  • Documents and reports any safety or security issues immediately.
  • Engages patients in therapeutic communication and provides 1:1 and group interventions.
  • Aids patients in adhering to the unit’s schedule and expectations.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment.
  • Serves as a Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) as needed.
  • Communicates patient behavior, interactions, and physical condition to nursing staff.
  • Facilitates hand-off communications between staff members.
  • Applies principles of de-escalation and assists with restrictive interventions.

Qualifications

  • Holds a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Has effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Has interpersonal skills suitable for an inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Has one to two years of related experience in psychiatry or a related human service field.
  • Preferred to have one to two years of Behavioral Health Tech experience.
  • Will be required to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) and Crisis Intervention certifications.
  • Must hold Level 1 American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) Certification.
