Responsibilities
- Counsels and documents patient observations at specified intervals.
- Monitors patients using surveillance equipment continuously.
- Performs routine environmental safety inspections.
- Documents and reports any safety or security issues immediately.
- Engages patients in therapeutic communication and provides 1:1 and group interventions.
- Aids patients in adhering to the unit’s schedule and expectations.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment.
- Serves as a Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) as needed.
- Communicates patient behavior, interactions, and physical condition to nursing staff.
- Facilitates hand-off communications between staff members.
- Applies principles of de-escalation and assists with restrictive interventions.
Qualifications
- Holds a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Has effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Has interpersonal skills suitable for an inpatient psychiatric setting.
- Has one to two years of related experience in psychiatry or a related human service field.
- Preferred to have one to two years of Behavioral Health Tech experience.
- Will be required to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) and Crisis Intervention certifications.
- Must hold Level 1 American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) Certification.
