Behavioral Health Recovery Counselor

About the role

Coastal Oaks Care Center, a newly owned facility by Generations Healthcare, is a 63-bed Special Treatment Program (33 long-term care and 30 short-term program beds). We are looking for a Behavioral Health Recovery Counselor to join our team and provide kind, competent, and compassionate services to residents while fostering an enjoyable work environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough assessments to identify clients’ risk factors for relapse, including personal history, triggers, and coping mechanisms.
• Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to develop personalized relapse prevention plans, emphasizing self-awareness, coping skills, and stress management.
• Lead educational and support groups focused on relapse prevention techniques, including recognizing triggers, developing coping strategies, and building a support network.
• Lead care conferences with required stakeholders and provide progress updates, insights on current barriers, and compliance status.
• Offer immediate support and intervention in crisis situations, employing de-escalation techniques and ensuring the safety of clients.
• Collaborate with the behavioral health team, including therapists, medical staff, and social workers, to provide comprehensive care.
• Educate residents and their families about the recovery process, including the importance of aftercare and ongoing support networks.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with facility policies and regulations.
• Stay informed about the latest research and best practices in addiction treatment and relapse prevention.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred.
• Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor Level I (CADC-I) preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in addiction counseling or related field with a focus on relapse prevention preferred.
• Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and/or moderate to severe mental illness preferred.
