About the role

The Behavioral Health Crisis Therapist conducts crisis mental health and substance abuse evaluations for consumers. You will evaluate biopsychosocial status and needs to develop appropriate treatment or crisis plans, and provide 24-hour mental health and substance abuse emergency resources to persons in central Indiana.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate psychosocial status and needs to develop appropriate disposition plans.
• Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) when necessary.
• Triage patients accurately and efficiently in various settings (Pavilion, ER, medical unit).
• Determine level of care and assess risk, including suicide and homicide, for each patient presenting in crisis.
• Conduct crisis intervention and support services for consumers of all ages.
• Perform mental health and chemical dependency screenings for consumers and family members.
• Coordinate direct admissions between patients’ providers, inpatient psychiatrists, and inpatient units.
• Maintain documentation for all crisis and case management services, including social, psychiatric, and medical histories, to support disposition and preliminary diagnosis.
• Provide offsite and community-based response.
• Offer consultation services to medical units as needed.
• Provide consultation and education to hospital staff and external customers.
• Screen for acute care services, including partial, outpatient, and case management.
• Provide psychiatric coverage to Network Emergency departments and other departments as needed.
• Present detailed cases to insurance reviewers for certification.
• Succinctly present high-risk patient cases to psychiatrists.
• Participate in aggressive behavior management appropriate to the population served.

Requirements

• LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT licensure in the State of Indiana required.
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a mental health-related field required.
• 2+ years of experience providing mental health treatment required.
• Experience in crisis triage and management, risk assessments, and working with mental health and chemically dependent populations preferred.
• Experience in a medical milieu preferred.
