About the Role
The Behavioral Health Counselor conducts patient assessments, implements therapeutic interventions, completes individualized treatment plans, provides patient education, and completes referrals as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient screenings, biopsychosocial assessments, and diagnostic evaluations to identify needs and assign appropriate DSM/ICD diagnoses.
- Assess and address barriers to care while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to support patient access to medical and behavioral health services.
- Develop, implement, and manage individualized treatment plans, providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions and crisis support as needed.
- Coordinate referrals, case conferences, and community resources to ensure continuity of care and patient engagement in treatment.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, confidential records, and required reports.
- Participate in training, policy compliance, and behavioral health education initiatives.
Qualifications
- Active LCSW with Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners or LPC with Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners is required.
- Master’s degree in social work or master’s degree in counseling is required.
- At least one (1) year of paid post-degree experience in clinical experience providing mental health and substance use disorder services is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with evidence-based practices, including trauma-informed care framework.
- Knowledge and experience with developmental disabilities and children.
- Knowledge and experience working with co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance use) is preferred.
- BLS for healthcare provider is required.
