About the role
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization serving nearly 30,000 people in rural, southwest Alaska. This position is based in Lower Kalskag, where the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is home to thousands of lakes and two primary rivers.
Responsibilities
- Provides substance use assessments, crisis stabilization, case management, screenings, and rehabilitation services.
- Works under the supervision of a licensed clinician.
- Communicates, retrieves, and presents data and information verbally, written, and electronically.
- Develops a plan to obtain Substance Abuse Counselor certification and advances to BHA-I certification.
- Partners with supervisor to complete a specialized BHA-I training program and a 100-hour clinical practicum.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: High school or GED equivalent.
- Minimum Experience: Two (2) years experience in the field of Community Services.
- Mature judgment and the ability to communicate, retrieve, and present data and information.
- Flexible with work schedule and ability for independent actions within prescribed limits.
Qualifications
- License, Certifications, Registration: May develop a plan to obtain Substance Abuse Counselor certification and advance to BHA-I certification.
- Equipment/Tools: Computer skills, good telephone etiquette, good verbal and written communication skills, bilingual Yup'ik/English/Regional preferred.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of communication skills and motivation sufficient for learning in behavioral health counseling field.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to learn counseling skills through in-service training.
- Ability to effectively present information.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
