Job Description

As a Behavioral Health Advisor, you have the opportunity to assist individuals with mental health diagnoses to live more independently and to adjust to life as an independent member of the community while integrating the philosophies of recovery and resiliency.

The Behavioral Health Advisor participates in the individual's development of interdependence, self-directed care, individually created support systems and community involvement.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of each individual's Treatment/Support/Recovery Plan.
  • Aid in managing the symptoms of mental illness and establishing recovery plans.
  • Support the development of appropriate skill-building necessary for independent living.
  • Promote community integration, independence, and interdependence through utilization of community resources.
  • Communicate and cooperate with on-site team, family, involved agencies, and the community.
  • Provide support and assistance in arranging medical care and following health care recommendations.
  • Prepare meals, including assisting individuals where regulations allow, and encourage adherence to dietary guidelines.
  • Model and train team members in task completion.
  • Conduct fire drills, manage emergency situations, and provide coverage in such scenarios.
  • Assist in monitoring and/or administering medications.
  • Model the five principles of trauma-informed care: safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment.
  • Promote cultural, racial, language, and gender access, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

This position requires one of the following combinations of education and experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalency and related personal, professional, or educational experience; and 12 semester hours of college training in a mental illness related field or 6 months of formal training in mental illness or related field.
  • A bachelor's degree in human services or related field.

Additional requirements include:

  • A valid driver's license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend trainings, meetings, and/or transport individuals to appointments.
  • Able to work flexible hours.

Wage Information

Base rate $20.50/hr. Education and experience are taken into account for potential higher starting rates. Plus an awake overnight $1.00/hr. shift differential for hours worked between 10 PM to 6 AM.
