Non-Exempt Support Staff position in various schools across the Washington Elementary School District. Accountable to the school principal; 199-day calendar.
About the Role
Under general direction, the incumbent implements school-wide discipline, truancy, and tardiness programs, recommends appropriate disciplinary actions, investigates referrals, documents incidents, and supports a positive school climate and culture.
Responsibilities
- Implement school-wide behavior management, bullying, truancy, and tardiness programs in collaboration with administration, the School Discipline Committee, staff, and the District office.
- Recommend appropriate disciplinary actions for students who violate school expectations.
- Investigate discipline referrals, complete required paperwork, and ensure data entry.
- Implement disciplinary actions according to District and school policies.
- Model and facilitate programs promoting positive self-esteem, decision-making, conflict resolution, and peer mediation.
- Support interventions for teachers and parents prior to Team Approach Process (TAP) referrals, including participation in child study teams and monitoring functional behavioral assessments.
- Provide discipline and attendance data to support the TAP process.
- Communicate with staff, parents, and students regarding discipline, truancy, and tardiness.
- Assist the principal in conducting threat assessments using District guidelines.
- Report student conduct to applicable law enforcement agencies and collaborate with resource officers on prevention plans.
- Monitor and observe classrooms, hallways, and recess areas for student behaviors.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development seminars, and student support-related meetings.
- Maintain visibility and accessibility on campus and at school-related activities during the workday.
- Recognize and address disruptions to school order by implementing strategies.
- Participate in the school-wide climate and culture team to evaluate data and implement positive behavior strategies.
- Provide guidance and training to teachers on discipline policies and school safety.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Two years of work experience with students.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a public education system.
- Two years of student services-related experience.
- Possession of a valid CPI Certification Card.
Skills
- Instructional and facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of child abuse reporting requirements, school discipline procedures, and special education laws.
- Understanding of WESD Board policies (truancy, discipline, tardiness).
- Knowledge of child development theories and classroom activities.
- Ability to positively influence children and facilitate group activities.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency in personal computers and related software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
The work environment is usually moderate in noise level.
Pay
$15.76 to $18.92 per hour.
Schedule
Full-time, 199-day calendar.
