Duties
- Support students across Erie 1 BOCES Special Education programs.
- Works with individual students on building social/emotional/behavioral skills.
- Assists in crisis management including physically intervening when a student displays behavior that are harmful to themselves or others.
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments.
- Serve on student support teams.
- Provide consultation to classroom teams.
- Provide consultation to administrators regarding student support plans.
- Train school staff on best practices for support of students in classrooms
- Assists educational teams in implementing proactive behavioral strategies to support individual students, as well as, reinforcing newly acquired skills.
Job Qualifications
- Minimum Civil Service Qualifications: There is no civil service examination required for this position for the duration of the NY HELPS Program.
- Candidates must meet the minimum civil service qualifications for a NY HELPS appointment as follows:
- Master's degree in education or related field and Special Education Certification; with two years experience creating Behavior Intervention Programs, developing assessment of student needs through Functional Behavior Assessment, teaching coping skills and alternative behavior;
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field and Special Education Certification; with three years experience creating Behavior Intervention Programs, developing assessment of student needs through Functional Behavior Assessment, teaching coping skills and alternative behaviors;
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
- Additional Qualifications: Candidate must hold a valid teaching certificate in the area of Students with Disabilities. Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst may be considered in lieu of a teaching certificate.
