As a Behavior Specialist, you will create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment that fosters student learning and personal growth. You will develop lesson plans aligned with established guidelines, build effective rapport with students, staff, and parents, and motivate students to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge for a strong educational foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with students whose behavior, school progress, and social skills indicate a need for assistance.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to identify causes of problems and develop solutions.
  • Provide behavior support and suggestions for classroom management.
  • Assist teachers in writing and facilitating Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans/Committee for Academic and Behavioral Supports.
  • Help teachers develop accommodations and modifications to meet student academic and behavioral needs.
  • Maintain and analyze accurate student behavioral data to inform committee decisions.
  • Serve as a consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations not referred for direct service.
  • Meet regularly with building administrators to discuss school-wide behavioral trends and concerns.
  • Participate as a Crisis Team member after training in non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Assist teachers and classroom assistants in self-contained classrooms for students with Emotional Disabilities (ED) with classroom management, implementation of behavioral plans, and community-related activities.
  • Support ED students transitioning from self-contained to inclusionary settings.
  • Develop and facilitate social skills groups for students.
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding social skills curriculum.
  • Possess working knowledge of community agencies and resources.
  • Facilitate staff development sessions and parent focus groups.
  • Understand and model positive behavioral intervention supports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of procedures, policies, and laws pertaining to special education.
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality.
  • Work flexible hours to accommodate parent meetings, conferences, and staff development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Possession of valid certification (as appropriate).
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of and commitment to company values.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
  • Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
  • Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS), and email communications.

  • Strives to implement best practices and positive character education consistently.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexible and creative management of disciplinary issues.
  • Ability to provide a supportive role to the principal.
