BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST

Responsibilities

• Assist with linkages and referrals for youth identified as in need of community-based services in supports.
• Aid in the development of targeted and intensive level interventions and strategies.
• Provide direct services to a referred group of targeted students.
• Develop methods of tracking effectiveness of behavior support plans.
• Regularly review and analyze data and make changes to plans as necessary.
• Prepare and provide CPI/PMT training to district staff on an “as needed” basis.
• Assist teachers in the development and implementation of social skills curricula appropriate to students’ ages and abilities.
• Collaborate with school personnel in the development of behavior plans.
• Aid in the development and implementation of alternative interventions to suspension.
• Provide ongoing staff observation and feedback related to behavioral treatment integrity.
• Participate in meetings and professional development as required or appropriate.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Five or more years of successful school-based experience in a special education environment preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of psychology/behavior modification techniques.
• Ability to implement/interpret behavior intervention plans, classroom systems, IEP’s and reinforcement systems.
• Current CPI or PMT trainer certification.
• Collaborating with school personnel about behavioral/social/emotional health.
• Evidence of diplomacy, flexibility, creativity and perseverance.
• Effective facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
