Behavior Planning Software Engineer
About the role
The Aurora Driver is seeking a Software Engineer to support and scale efforts for our Behavior Planning Team. This role involves developing real-time algorithms for safe and comfortable vehicle trajectories, integrating motion planning with machine learning, and designing and implementing production-grade software for the Aurora Driver.
Responsibilities
- Develop real-time algorithms for selecting safe and comfortable trajectories for a self-driving vehicle
- Integrate motion planning with machine learning to create verifiable AI systems for autonomous driving
- Design and implement production-grade software for the Aurora Driver
- Create metric suites and testing workflows for rapid iteration on algorithms
Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Robotics, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field
- 4+ years of strong programming and software design skills in Python and/or C++, especially in low latency or real-time environments
- Experience in designing, building, and productionizing motion planning algorithms (cost function design, optimization, or sampling-based techniques)
Desirable Qualifications
- Expertise with GPU or ML toolkits such as PyTorch, CUDA, TensorFlow, JAX, and/or TensorRT
- Expertise in machine learning for robotic/agentic applications (reinforcement learning or imitation learning)
Pay
The base salary range for this position is $126,000 - $201,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions.
Schedule
Aurora operates in a hybrid work environment where employees are expected to be in the office at least 3 days per week.
