Behavior Interventionist

Responsibilities

  • Participates as an active member in a team approach to the delivery of services to students
  • Serves as a member of the Treatment and Resource Team
  • Affords consultation to teachers and other faculty regarding implementation of behavior plans
  • Through standardized, diagnostic and informal assessments, participates in the development and implementation of behavior plans, objectives and methods necessary for providing effective services to individual clients and families
  • Oversees training on and implementation of the behavior management system appropriate for each student
  • Maintains accuracy of behavior management system data to evaluate its effectiveness
  • Attends staff meetings, community meetings, and other staff and program group activities that support the operation of an effective program (may include parent conferences with teachers and caregivers)
  • Works with other staff (teachers, Resource Team) with students in crisis, providing support and reinforcement of sound behavioral strategies and plans
  • Uses approved behavior management interventions to work with all students
  • Assumes active role in designing and implementing in-service training programs on innovations in the field
  • Provides professional behavior support services to students and their families, individually and in groups on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Participates in the development of progress/evaluation reports on students
  • Maintains accurate individual case records for students under his/her supervision within state licensing and professional accreditation standards
  • Affords assistance in student intake, admissions and discharge planning
  • Maintains sight and sound supervision
  • Follows established protocol in identifying and reporting instances of suspected child abuse or neglect
  • Advises Principal and/or other management team members of any performance issues in the classroom, whether student or faculty
  • Participates in faculty meetings and other group activities including after school and evening programs
  • Attends trainings required by St. Joseph’s Villa and when appropriate, staff development opportunities on and off campus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) with 2 or more years of experience with relevant population or equivalent experience of 4 or more years with relevant population: children with behavioral or developmental disabilities preferably in special education setting
  • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record
