This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list to fill any vacancies within the life of the list (6 months) and for the 2026-2027 school year.

Requirements

Possession of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent and one of the following:

  • Completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education;
  • Possession of an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
  • Passing a rigorous assessment that demonstrates the knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting State and Federal requirements.

Applicants may be exempt from taking the NCLB examination if they provide college transcripts verifying 48 units or more in core subject area courses with a grade of "C" or better. Transcripts must be submitted with the application. If an applicant does not possess enough units to be exempt, they must attach to their application a letter requesting an examination date. Applications will not be accepted without either transcripts or a letter requesting an examination date.

General Requirements

  • Subscribe to an Oath of Allegiance;
  • Submit to a general tuberculosis examination;
  • Be fingerprinted;
  • Complete a pre-placement physical examination;
  • Show proof of identity and right to work in the United States;
  • Pass a drug test (the District has adopted a drug-free workplace policy).

Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results from all examination parts pertaining to the classification.

Certification & Eligibility

When a vacant position is to be filled, the Classified Personnel Director submits the names of the top three “ranks” to the appointing power, who may select any one of them. Names of those not appointed remain on the eligibility list.

Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination process will be ranked on the eligibility list according to total examination score. This list is normally in effect for one year.

Employee service credit shall be added to the final composite scores for regular employees of, and those on re-employment lists for, Escondido Union School District: one half point (.5) for each complete year of service, up to a maximum of five (5) points.

Benefits

  • Health Insurance Plan: Employees working 5 hours or more per day (25 hours or more per week) receive family medical coverage, employee life and vision, and employee or family dental coverage.
  • Holidays: Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for 16 authorized holidays (for twelve-month employees), provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.
  • Longevity Pay: Increments are added to the employee’s base pay rate, effective July 1, after completing the required years of service:
    • 9 years: 3.5%
    • 14 years: 7.123%
    • 19 years: 12.158%
    • 24 years: 16.644%
    • 29 years: 21.310%
    • 34 years: 26.162%
    • 39 years: 31.209%
    • 44 years: 36.457%
    • 49 years: 41.915%
    • 54 years: 47.592%
    • 59 years: 53.495%
  • Professional Growth: After one year of service, regular classified employees may earn additional salary increments for improving skills through continuing education.
  • Retirement: All new employees working four hours or more must become members of the California Public Employees Retirement System and the Federal Social Security program; contributions are made by both the District and employees.
  • Shift Differential: Employees required to work more than four hours of their regular shift (non-overtime) between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. receive a 3.75% pay increase for the entirety of each applicable day.
  • Sick Leave: Regular full-time twelve-month employees earn 12 days of paid sick leave per year, with no limit on accumulation. Sick leave is prorated for employees working less than twelve months.
  • Vacation: Regular full-time twelve-month employees earn 12 days of paid vacation leave per year. After 5 years of service, the number of days earned increases. Vacation is prorated for employees working less than twelve months.
  • Veterans Preference: Veterans and disabled veterans preference points, as defined in Education Code Section 45296, are added to passing scores in open examinations for entry-level classifications.

Probationary Period

Newly appointed employees serve an initial probationary period not to exceed six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer. "Paid service" includes days worked, approved vacation days, and designated holidays, but excludes paid or unpaid illness, industrial illness/accident leave, personal necessity, bereavement, personal business, and limited-duty assignments due to temporary disability.
