Behavior Education Assistant (230-Day)
About the Role
The Behavior Education Assistant supports the implementation of evidence-based behavior strategies for students with challenging behavioral needs across various district sites. Responsibilities include monitoring and collecting behavior data, documenting progress on skill acquisition, and collaborating with school staff to implement behavior interventions.
Responsibilities
- Implements multi-faceted behavior interventions based on data
- Assists with the implementation and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and skill acquisition programs
- Reads and identifies essential components of written Behavior Intervention Plans and Individualized Education Programs as they relate to behavior areas of need
- Assists teachers and staff with behavior data collection measures
- Provides feedback and explanations to case managers and teachers about interventions
- Travels to multiple sites as necessary
- Assists in the development of reinforcement identification procedures
- Demonstrates confidentiality when dealing with students, parents, and school employees
- Works with various support systems available in the school and community
- Follows district policies and guidelines for violations of the student code of conduct
- Understands Special Education regulations, including the Least Restrictive Behavior Intervention
- Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor

- Must be able to walk long distances, respond rapidly in emergency situations, stand for long periods, bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps, and reach overhead
- Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 20 pounds or more with assistance
- Ability to work five days a week, up to seven hours or more per day, or as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related subject required
- 2-3 years of experience in a K-12 education setting preferred
- Willingness to become Certified as a Registered Behavior Technician within one year of employment
Equipment
This position may require the use of SMART boards, iPads, and basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners. Must comply with district guidelines for equipment use.
Interrelations
- Contact with students, district personnel, customers, and vendors
- Works under the direct supervision of the Building Principal to complete day-to-day tasks
- Works with a diverse population, requiring tact and diplomacy in all situations
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs while maintaining a positive attitude
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide responsive customer service
Employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work scheduled hours unless approved leave is obtained. Any deviation from assigned hours requires prior approval from a supervisor or building administrator. All employees must report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of the district and is appropriate for their position.
