About the role

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is recruiting for a Lead Cook position at the Martinez Detention Facility in Martinez, California. This position works various shifts and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Direct and participate in planning and cooking meals for large numbers of inmates.
• Provide work direction to food service personnel including detained inmates.
• Estimate and requisition groceries, meats, produce and other food stuffs needed to prepare planned menus.
• Assist in receiving, checking and inspecting all kitchen deliveries.
• Provide work direction to inmates in the proper methods of washing dishes, pots, pans, utensils and kitchen equipment as well as cleaning the walls and floors of the kitchen area.
• Deliver food supplies and prepared meals using a county vehicle.
• May also be assigned to the Marsh Creek Detention Facility in Clayton.

Requirements

• Three (3) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) food service experience as journey level cook in a full-service restaurant, hotel, college, detention center, hospital, military installation or similar institution which involved the daily preparation of meals for 100 or more people.
• Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operators License.
• Substitution for Experience: Possession of a Certificate in Food Production from an accredited vocational institution, including courses in quantity food preparation, equipment, sanitation and safety, may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Qualifications

• Prior to employment, candidates will be screened by the Sheriff's Office with a background investigation, including a polygraph test, and will be fingerprinted.
• Must not have prior felony convictions and/or history of substance abuse.
