Responsibilities
- Patient Diagnosis & Treatment: Diagnose and treat a wide range of allergic and immunologic conditions, including asthma, hay fever, food allergies, eczema, sinusitis, and inherited immunodeficiency diseases.
- Diagnostics: Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests such as skin prick tests, blood tests (e.g., IgE measurements), patch tests, and pulmonary function tests (spirometry) to identify specific allergens and assess immune function.
- Treatment Plan Development: Create and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans, which may include prescribing medications (antihistamines, corticosteroids, antibiotics) and administering therapies like allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots) or immunoglobulin therapy.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, prognoses, treatment options, allergen avoidance techniques, and lifestyle modifications to manage conditions effectively and prevent severe reactions.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, pulmonologists, and dermatologists, to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely electronic health records (EHR) of patient histories, examinations, test results, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
- Emergency Management: Manage emergency situations related to severe allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis.
Qualifications
- Education: Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
- Training: Completed a residency program in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics.
- Training: Completed a two-year fellowship training program in Allergy and Immunology.
- Certification & Licensure: Board Certification in Allergy and Immunology by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) or board-eligible. Valid and unrestricted state medical license to practice in Delaware.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
