About the course

After completing the course Technische bedrijfskunde voor de maakindustrie, you will master skills from the modules: organisation-environment and project management, operational production control, operational excellence, Industry 4.0, and personal effectiveness, development, and communication.

New developments and changes follow each other rapidly, while responsibilities within companies are increasingly shifting to operational levels. This requires operational employees to develop skills that were not originally part of their role. The course Technische bedrijfskunde prepares you for these challenges.

“I would recommend it to everyone. Thanks to this course, you understand why a company operates the way it does. Isn’t that the best way? Soon, you’ll know how to change it!” – Read Marcel Groener’s full story.

Jan-Willem also completed the course: “The great thing about this course is that it’s not just about machining but also covers topics you don’t yet use in your work. You gain insights that help in the broader business world and are useful when talking to customers. Many assignments are directly translated into real-world business, making it tangible. That’s a major advantage over purely theoretical learning.” Read Jan-Willem’s experience.

Ken also chose this course. Read his story about how he experienced it.

Course content

  • Organisation-environment and project management
    • Understand the external and internal environment of the organisation.
    • Learn how strategy is developed and business decisions are made.
    • Develop a broad perspective on current events and business situations, connecting all disciplines as a technical business engineer.
    • Create a project proposal to implement improvement and optimisation processes.
    • Develop a project plan, manage its execution, assess and minimise risks, monitor, and adjust.
    • Evaluate the project.

The business environment is constantly changing and largely extends beyond the organisation. External factors influence company policy. To shape these external and internal developments, a good understanding of all disciplines is essential—this is the domain of the technical business engineer. Proper preparation is key, especially for projects. You will recognise themes around change, improvement, and optimisation and translate them into necessary projects for your organisation. A project is always unique and involves many uncertainties. A well-prepared project plan is a crucial success factor. By working project-based, you learn how to manage a project and account for uncertainties to achieve the desired outcome.

  • Operational production control
    • Create a production schedule.
    • Gain insight into logistical processes and inventory management.
    • Understand quality management.
    • Calculate cost prices.
    • Understand collaboration and communication within organisations.
    • Apply the root cause analysis method.

In a production company, time, quality, and costs are constantly at play. Managing these factors can be challenging. You will learn how to actively contribute to this and apply the latest developments.

  • Operational Excellence
    • Understand the connection between organisational goals, products, the primary process, information, organisation, and management.
    • Analyse processes.
    • Gain insight into process improvement concepts.

An efficient production process is one where everything is well-coordinated. The right people are needed to carry out the activities in this process, and they require timely, complete, and accurate information. Good indicators are necessary to manage the process. All these aspects are discussed in relation to each other, using the operational excellence model as a guiding thread.

    • Learn the aspects of Industry 4.0.
    • Apply smart industry to your practical situation.

Using a practical case or excursion, you will learn how Industry 4.0 can be implemented in your organisation. In the digital world, the focus is on delivering distinctive customer value and new revenue models. By using the right data, hardware, software, and sensor technology, targeted customer value can be created. This applies not only to the production process but to the entire process from design to delivery. In this module, you will learn to differentiate yourself from other providers by making better and smarter use of assets, information, resources, quality, service, and supply.
