About the Role

As a Cosmetic Sales colleague, also known as a Beauty Advisor, your focus is to support the Beauty needs of our customers to drive sales. You will act as both a product educator and beauty enthusiast, specializing in making customers feel beautiful and confident. You’ll build a client base, nurture strong client relationships, and meet sales goals while leveraging new selling ideas. This role involves in-person and virtual customer interactions, including consultations and makeup application.

Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, while part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. Hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Use product knowledge to provide expert guidance tailored to each customer’s wants, features, and choices.
  • Build relationships with customers by introducing them to beauty products and identifying their needs.
  • Show and teach the use of beauty products by applying them on customers.
  • Maintain proper display, organization, storage, and restocking of inventory.
  • Use the clientele program to connect with customers, achieve sales goals, inform about promotions and product launches, and enroll customers in rewards programs.
  • Participate in pre-selling and sales-boosting events to increase sales and reach personal targets.
  • Stay current with all training through Macy’s educational resources, including vendor trainings and virtual sessions.
  • Merchandise new arrivals, process damages, testers, and select merchandise for return to vendors.
  • Use point-of-sale technology and applications to assist in selling and fulfilling customer orders.
  • Follow hygiene standards, asset protection controls, and compliance procedures.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect to strengthen relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of customer service or selling experience (cosmetic or fragrance sales experience a plus).
  • Passion for the beauty industry and ability to provide outstanding customer care.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to resolve customer problems constructively and use sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Skills

  • Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of beauty products to provide expert guidance based on customer needs.
  • Communication: Comfortable interacting with customers in person, virtually, and via phone.
  • Sales: Ability to build customer relationships, achieve sales goals, and participate in sales-boosting events.
  • Technology: Proficiency in point-of-sale systems and applications for selling and order fulfillment.
  • Continuous Learning: Self-driven to stay updated on Macy’s beauty products, trends, and training.
  • Makeup Application: Ability to demonstrate and teach product use by applying them on customers.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Proficiency in vendor lines and beauty trends to serve as a knowledgeable resource.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels and across departments.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods (at least two consecutive hours) of standing and walking around the store or department.
  • Frequent use of computers and handheld electronic equipment.
  • Reaching, including above eye level, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and color vision.
  • Constant moving, standing, reaching with arms and hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • Lifting and moving items weighing up to 25 lbs.
