BD Engineering Development Program
About the role
The BD Engineering Development Program (EDP) is a three-year rotational program for new engineering graduates. Participants rotate through three different BD businesses across the U.S., working alongside R&D engineers on cross-functional teams to design, develop, and manufacture medical devices. After completing the program, EDPs transition into full-time roles within BD R&D based on their interests and business needs.
Potential rotation locations include Vernon Hills, IL; Irvine, CA; Brea, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Franklin Lakes, NJ; Warwick, RI; Tempe, AZ; Research Triangle Park, NC; Durham, NC; San Diego, CA; Covington, GA; and Louisville, CO.
Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of an R&D manager and team to develop and maintain medical technology and devices.
- Design, develop, and test medical devices while adhering to medical device regulations and quality processes.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, analysts, scientists, and quality, regulatory, and marketing groups to understand patient and healthcare provider needs.
- Participate in design reviews, device testing, and provide regular status updates.
- Lead teams and participate in cross-functional projects.
- Provide technical support on components, material methods, systems, processes, and equipment.
- Write technical protocols and reports.
Requirements
- New engineering graduate with a BS or MS in Mechanical, Biomedical (Bioengineering), Materials, Electrical, Chemical, or related discipline.
- Expected graduation date between August 2026 and June 2027.
- Excellent academic record.
- Relevant internship or co-op experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to relocate annually during the three-year program.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction as to duration.
Skills
- Critical decision-making using basic engineering principles.
- Results and goal-oriented with a drive for innovation.
- Ability to maintain professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with technical protocols, reports, and basic engineering cost analysis.
- Proficiency in CAD and basic principles of product design and prototyping (Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering).
- Demonstrated comprehension of basic comparative statistics.
