NOTE: This role is specifically seeking a leader to serve primarily in the US Public Sector as part of BCG Platinion’s Architecture practice, but also open to commercial and private sector engagements where required. Ideal candidate requirements given client and contract/portfolio requirements include US Citizenship, active security clearance or ability to obtain a security clearance (e.g. DoD Secret / Top Secret), prior expertise with portfolio and project management of US federal government agencies in a technology consulting context is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary teams of designers, engineers, researchers, technical experts, and consultants to develop leading IT concepts and architectural solutions.
  • Apply technical know-how, understanding of business contexts, and analytical skills to enable organizations to technically transform.
  • Design solution, application, and data architecture.
  • Develop feasibility studies, technical concepts, execute technical proofs of concept, and scale software solutions.
  • Perform technology assessments and implement IT architectures.
  • Analyze complex IT application landscapes and status quo for IT architecture optimization.
  • Review technical architecture and code.
  • Support IT functions during mergers and acquisitions, including the functional and technical transformation of an organization’s IT department.
  • Restructure IT processes and organization.
  • Optimize the application development processes.
  • Design work packages/modules in IT implementation projects.
  • Evaluate products, SW packages, and solutions, including comparative studies across organizations’ systems (e.g., ERPs, HR systems, Data Analytics).
  • Assess quality assurance for IT implementation.
  • Craft compelling narratives, translating complex ideas for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Deliver impactful presentations, lead modules, present findings, and build consensus with clients.
  • Build collaboration, mentor teams, and share knowledge to drive collective success.
  • Drive innovation, uncover novel ideas, and transformative solutions.
  • Foster a growth mindset, continuously learn, and apply new skills to grow your impact.
  • Assist with business development through writing proposals and scoping projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in information technology, business administration, computer science, business management, or system controls & engineering or a related field.
  • Master's Degree in related fields not required but preferred.
  • 4+ years of professional experience in software engineering with more than 1 year in architecture discipline.
  • Superior technical knowledge, engineering rigor, and creative problem-solving.
  • Ability to explain complex technology topics to senior executives.
  • Extensive technical expertise and knowledge of:
    • Various technology stacks.
    • Mainframe architecture (nice to have, but not must).
    • Cloud native applications and cloud services architecture.
    • Omnichannel architecture.
    • Integration methodologies and tools.
    • API and Microservices architecture.
    • Structured and unstructured databases and usage patterns.
    • High-speed, high-volume, high-frequency transaction processing systems.
    • Real-time logging, monitoring, and resiliency approaches.
    • Disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
    • Next gen capabilities (e.g. AI/ML, IoT, Blockchain) and component technologies.
    • Data analytics architecture (e.g. Data Lake).
    • Programming paradigms and approaches (e.g. object-oriented).
    • Process automation approaches and tooling (e.g. DevOps, AIOps).
  • Experience in agile engineering and tooling support.
  • An agile mindset that moves past blockers and a vision to iteratively migrate to the next/modern set of architecture capabilities with a lens of business benefits/value.
  • Gen AI tool fluency (e.g., proven usage of GenAI such as ChatGPT, Claude) and validation of response.
  • Willingness to travel to work with clients and BCG teams. At times, this role involves significant travel to client sites. The amount of travel will depend on client needs and nature of projects.

Pay

The first year base compensation for this role is $150,000 in USD. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus and BCG’s Profit Sharing and Retirement Fund (PSRF) contribution.
