About the Role

The BBF Complex Leader is accountable for providing support for our 24/7 manufacturing operation, shift leaders, and associated processes at our Kansas City Fiberglass Insulation Plant, which is undergoing a $200 million transformation. This role requires a strong sense of personal commitment to the business and customers, fostering teamwork, and effective communication across all levels in a union environment. The leader will help implement organizational strategies, standards, and practices to achieve the plant’s business strategy and deliver results.

Reports to: Operations Leader

Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong safety culture where safety and sustainability are core values and personal responsibilities.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes, control plans, and work instructions are designed and executed to protect employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement efforts through standardized work to improve cost, productivity, and reduce quality-related issues for customers.
  • Lead operations in the hot end area of the plant, including Batch, Binder, and furnace processes.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineers to drive continuous improvement efforts, improving efficiencies, quality, and cost.
  • Set clear and measurable performance expectations aligned with plant goals and ensure results are achieved.
  • Proactively analyze and manage operations performance metrics to enhance efficiencies, quality, and cost.
  • Assign and coordinate work in a manufacturing department, including supervising first-line leaders.
  • Operate with zero environmental non-conformities to applicable company, government, and regulatory policies.
  • Ensure quality systems are utilized to provide consistent products that meet manufacturing specifications.
  • Deploy effective employee/labor relations practices, building strong partnerships in a union environment.
  • Establish an engaged workforce characterized by mutual trust, open communication, teamwork, and recognition.
  • Develop talent through effective performance management, talent evaluation, and utilization of people.
  • Maintain documentation, track performance, and execute coaching and corrective action when needed.
  • Create work standards for the hot end and partner with the Learning & Development Lead to execute training.
  • Partner with peers, engineers, and others to understand processes and customer requirements to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Drive toward zero defects or failures for customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, or related discipline (required).
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years leading people in a complex manufacturing environment or successful completion of the Manufacturing Leadership Program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading in a union environment.
  • Manufacturing Engineer experience.
  • Six Sigma certification and Lean manufacturing experience.
  • Willingness to relocate in the future with Owens Corning.
  • Experience driving TPM and 5S initiatives.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of hot end operations, including people, processes, and equipment.
  • Business and financial acumen.
  • Ability to compile and utilize data and/or Six Sigma methods for problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Experience creating and implementing strategic and operational plans.
  • Strong leadership and motivation skills for peers, direct reports, and primary workforce.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Strong planning, resourcing, and delegation skills.
  • Ability to engage and care for others, prioritizing safety.
  • Capable of achieving results quickly, both individually and through teams.
  • Experience managing environmental compliance programs (preferred).
