About the role
The Battery Repairperson will be a key technical member that will inspect, test, rebuild, and overhaul storage batteries used in material handling equipment and air monitoring equipment. Typical functions include the inspection, battery testing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining all batteries used throughout the site.
Responsibilities
- Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
- Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
- May be required to work overtime.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain batteries for various equipment.
- Conduct Preventative Maintenance (PM's) on batteries.
- Inspect, test, rebuild, and overhaul storage batteries used in Material Handling Equipment and Air Monitoring Equipment.
- Inspect batteries for defects.
- Test batteries for defects and efficiency.
- Use and maintain all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks if properly qualified and authorized by supervision.
- Assist the Tire Repairman when necessary.
- Assist Heavy Equipment and Auto vehicle Mechanics when necessary.
- Assist the Electromotive Mechanic when necessary.
- Work in close proximity to and or in a chemical/munition's demilitarization facility.
- Report actual and potential safety and environmental concerns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum six (6) months of direct battery repair or one (1) year automotive maintenance experience desired.
- Must be able to use all basic battery equipment.
- Must be able to safely and efficiently change high voltage battery cables.
- Must be able to operate a Forklift safely and efficiently.
- Must be able to maintain battery levels.
- Be able to work with little supervision.
- Be able to work well with people and as a Team Player.
- Good writing and verbal communication skills.
- Be able to operate a computerized based terminal.
- Be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
- Maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement.
- Able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver’s license and pass a MVR check.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance.
Qualifications
- Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Skills
- Ability to work in a chemical/munition's demilitarization facility.
