About the Role

The Basketball Instructor is responsible for providing recreational experiences that enhance our athletic programming under the direction of the Pavilion Director. This individual ensures the delivery of professional, high-quality programs to our members while exceeding expectations. The role requires extensive knowledge of recreational basketball, age-appropriate instruction, effective group control, and a talent for engaging students in activities that support their overall physical and mental health.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Youth Basketball Programs
    • Create engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for a variety of age groups.
    • Provide support to ensure every participant is engaged and successful.
    • Apply extensive knowledge of age-appropriate sports coaching and instructional techniques.
    • Be flexible and forward-thinking, always having a backup plan.
  • Contribute to an Engaging Team Experience

    • Work closely with team members to create a cohesive team environment and promote high staff morale.
    • Support other team members when critical needs arise.
    • Execute additional duties as assigned by the Pavilion Director and/or Leadership staff.

    • Practice excellent group control and effective communication to ensure participants learn skills correctly and prevent injury.
    • Use age-appropriate behavior techniques to ensure an emotionally healthy experience.
    • Execute programming to develop ancillary skills including social-emotional competency, self-care, and character-building components.
    • Engage in and model positive adult-child interactions between associates and children.
  • Communication & Relationships
    • Interact and communicate effectively and professionally with senior management, managers, associates, vendors, members, staff, and guests.
    • Promote harmonious relations among members, staff, vendors, and the community at large.
    • Communicate in a timely manner and follow up as appropriate.
    • Actively participate in required events, programs, meetings, and trainings.
    • Uphold the TBCC mission and club brand in all aspects of program operations.
    • Represent the club professionally through image, dress, communication, and immediate follow-through.

    • Promote the company’s safety goals and actively work toward ensuring a safe working environment.
    • Interpret and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
    • Actively support club objectives and continuously support improvement and positive change, including participating on corporate-designated committees.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of basketball coaching experience.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting (preferred).
  • Ability to create and implement innovative youth sport or fitness program lesson plans.
  • Passion for youth development and experience working with youth between 4-18 years old.
  • Professional, friendly manner with excellent customer service attitude and abilities.
  • Strong verbal communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable team player.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative, and willing to acquire new skills.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Computer literate.
  • CPR certification required.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to arrive at work on time for all scheduled work shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Daily public contact with members and clients in person, by phone, and email.
  • Position requires frequent movement between indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to problem-solve in difficult situations and adapt to a frequently changing environment.
  • Frequent physical exertion such as bending, twisting, sitting, stooping, and use of hands and fingers.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally sit for extended periods and regularly walk around the facility.
  • Must occasionally talk and hear.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate safe exercise and perform equipment techniques.
  • Ability to perform CPR and administer first aid as needed.
  • Ability to travel independently to property locations on a minimal basis.

Pay

Estimated Base Pay Range: $17.13 - $19.00 per hour.
