Basketball Communications Associate
Position Summary/Objective
The Minnesota Timberwolves are seeking a Basketball Communications Associate, a seasonal position running from September 14 through the end of the 2026-27 season. This role offers hands-on experience in professional sports communications.
Essential Functions
- Assist Timberwolves Basketball Communications staff in all facets of the team’s communications efforts.
- Affiliate with media monitoring to track and evaluate the team’s media coverage through its media monitoring system.
- Aid in the creation and provision of media with credentials, as well as providing media and teams with statistical and press content.
- Occasionally assist with department publications such as press releases, advisories and other written materials.
- Update and manage the Timberwolves media website on a daily basis.
- Archive articles and complete story pitches throughout the season.
- Afford assistance with postgame events that may occur during Timberwolves home games.
- Afford assistance with press conferences, including setting up and welcoming media.
- Transcribe quotes on game nights for media.
- Staff visiting team shootarounds to assist visiting public relations staff and media members.
- Handle confidential information in a professional manner.
Other Duties
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Strong basketball statistical knowledge required.
- Computer skills required: experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe InDesign is preferred.
- Able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Able to work well on a team and independently.
- Able to manage specific processes and tasks in the department under supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other
- Communications background, including Public Relations, Journalism, and/or sports information/sports PR experience is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or equivalent experience preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate: $22/hour

Work Environment
- This job operates during Timberwolves home games.
- Work is both sedentary and active in nature.
- The position operates out of an administrative office and a sports arena.
- The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by dust, etc.
- The noise level is loud during events.
- During events work is generally performed on the main court, around the concourse and bleachers/steps, as well as in an office environment.
Physical Demands
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone.
- The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer and telephone.
- The employee may remain in stationary position for periods of time and is frequently required to ascend and descend bleachers/steps and traverse quickly around the arena on event days and potentially non-event days.
- Staff will frequently move boxes and equipment each game night weighing up to 30 pounds.
