Basic Mechanic - Facilities Planning and Management
About the role
The Basic Mechanic supports the teaching and research mission of the University through multi-craft maintenance, operation, and repair of various building systems.
Responsibilities
- Assists with troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment and systems.
- Proactively identifies, communicates, prioritizes, and addresses needs without direction when appropriate.
- Responds to work orders and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable, and friendly manner.
- Maintains data per departmental policy.
- Utilizes materials, supplies, tools, and other University property in a safe, productive manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Job Location/Working Conditions: Must be willing to provide one’s own hand tools. Ability to travel to various on- and off-campus locations.
- Physical Effort: Capable of doing extensive walking, climbing stairs/ladders, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs., and other similar physical activity.
- Equipment: Simple hand tools.
Education
Required Qualifications: No specific diploma, certification, or degree is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Vocational Diploma - specific trade or career.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is required for this position.

Driver's License
A Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license and a good driving record are required for this position.
Required Qualifications
Must be able to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver’s License by the end of the probationary period and cannot drive University owned vehicles until Class E Driver’s License is obtained.
Salary Range
The salary rate for this position is determined by the current union contract. Please note that there may be salary differentials for working second or third shifts.
