About the role

Assist students with significant support needs (SSN) by providing specialized and individualized childcare, education, and recreational activities during before and after school (BASE) programs and field trips. Duties include providing direction, guidance, and assistance to students; handling student discipline; ensuring safety and security; monitoring behaviors and functional life skills; communicating with parents, staff, teachers, and site leadership; preparing snacks; providing infant and childcare (including feeding and diapering); cleaning classroom areas; recording attendance; and assisting sick or injured students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and support in a BASE setting to ensure students fully and safely participate in program activities.
  • Assist SSN students by supervising, guiding, monitoring, and encouraging acceptable social behavior during crafts, art projects, games, and other activities.
  • Provide developmental stimulation and ensure student needs are met.
  • Record attendance and contact parents regarding student absences.
  • Assist SSN students in performing daily routines, including getting to and from class and bus stops, field trips, toileting, diapering, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • Assist students with medical needs, including trachs, feeding tubes, catheterization, distributing and recording medication administration, and providing CPR and general First Aid as needed.
  • Sanitize, disinfect, and clean the learning environment and general work area of all bodily fluids.
  • Assist site directors and leaders with parent and staff communication, behavior intervention, incident reporting, and verifying authorized adults for student pickup.
  • Prepare snacks and clean activity and kitchen areas after use.
  • Open and close the school building, securing it at the end of the program by locking doors and turning off lights.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with special needs students preferred.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer physical examination required prior to commencement of job duties.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions certifications required within 90 days of entering the position.
  • Medication administration training required as needed.
  • Universal Precautions training required within 3 months of entering the position.

Pay

Hourly range: $21.34 - $26.96 (Grade G7, Step 1 - Step 9). Newly hired classified employees are placed initially on Step 1 of the pay grade. Employees may advance up to Step 8 based on previous experience. Final placement depends on the position’s grade level and the employee’s work experience.

Schedule

Standard hours per week: 13.75 (FTE: 0.34375).
