About the Role
The Group Fitness Instructor provides cutting-edge group fitness instruction through a variety of entertaining, educational, and fun classes promoting fitness and positive self-esteem in a safe environment. They act as a fitness resource for class participants and maintain positive relationships with members to encourage continued class attendance. The instructor is responsible for consistently meeting daily class attendance goals and effectively promoting Life Time programs, products, and services.
As a Group Fitness Instructor at Life Time, you have the opportunity to instruct a variety of group fitness formats:
Strength
- LIFT: Build Strength: Strength training classes that combine muscles and music to motivate members to lift more, lift longer, and develop a lifelong love of lifting.
- SHRED: Strength Circuits for Lean Muscles: A full-body strength and endurance workout that is fun, simple, timed, and consistent, allowing members to move at their own pace for optimal results.
- MAXOUT: Life Time’s strength and conditioning brand that uses heavier weights, supersets, and high-energy challenges to push athletes to muscle burnout, increasing strength capacity and metabolism.
Cardio
- XTREME: Life Time’s ultimate conditioning brand featuring heart-pumping High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts designed to challenge members and raise their personal best.
- REMIXX: A high-energy cardio experience that blends heart-pumping workouts with a nightclub-like atmosphere, featuring remixes of new and throwback music.
Boxing/Kickboxing
- STRIKE: A gritty cardio class that teaches members to jab, cross, hook, and uppercut, helping them burn calories and build confidence.
Barre
- LIFE BARRE: Classes rooted in ballet, using precise isometric movements to engage muscles uniquely, improve posture, and enhance range of motion.
Cycle
- AMP: An immersive cycling experience where music sets the pace, blending exercise and entertainment.
- EDG: A fusion of music, metrics, and technology, challenging speed, strength, and stamina with heart-pounding soundtracks.
- PWR: Athletic endurance training on the bike, focusing on specificity, progression, and individualization.
Danze
- DANZE: Dance classes celebrating diversity, offering styles from Hip Hop to Latin Fusion and musical theater, allowing members to choose their groove.
Yoga
- SURRENDER YIN: A slow, meditative practice focusing on joint mobility and mindful stress on connective tissues.
- ROOT HATHA: A Hatha yoga experience emphasizing radical self-acceptance and muscle engagement for stability and grounding.
- FLOW VINYASA: A breath-centered flow class promoting physical strength, mobility, and mental clarity through dynamic sequences.
Arora
- ARORA: Comprehensively programmed classes supporting healthy aging, including AQUA, DANZE, GENTLE YOGA, and TOTAL BODY, designed for older adults in a fun, social environment.
Small Group Training (SGT)
- GTX: A 50/50 cardio and strength guided training experience with heart-rate-based intervals and resistance coaching.
- ULTRA FIT: Alternates between maximum-effort sprinting and strength/balance movements, building confidence and metabolic benefits.
- ALPHA: Full-body strength and conditioning programs designed to push individuals to their peak potential through progressive workouts and community support.
Responsibilities
- Develops positive relationships with class participants by teaching a variety of challenging and entertaining classes.
- Educates class participants on correct form and alternative moves during the fitness routine.
- Attentively listens to members, answers questions, and engages in conversation before and after classes.
- Cleans and organizes studio space after each class.
- Provides current music for each class that entertains and motivates while ensuring appropriate language.
- Promotes Life Time promotions, programs, products, and services, specifically encouraging participation in Classes at Life Time.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 or more years of fitness instructor work experience.
- CPR/AED Certification.
- Minimum of one of the following Group Exercise Certifications: NASM, ACE, AFAA, or AEA.
- Ability to perform aerobic activity for the duration of a class, including standing, walking, climbing, balancing, running, crawling, and kneeling.
- Ability to routinely lift 50 pounds and occasionally 100 pounds.
- Ability to perform exercises specific to the assigned class.
Pay
This position pays a class rate between $50.00 and $85.00, based on experience, qualifications, and duration of the class. The class rate compensates for all working time associated with teaching classes, including pre- and post-class activities.
