About the Role
Responsible for the daily operations and overall appearance of the coffee bar and related areas. Maintains a sanitary and organized environment, practices and abides by food codes, and serves customers in a professional manner with great customer service.
Responsibilities
- Operate related equipment: cappuccino machine, coffee grinder, coffee brewers, and blender.
- Perform opening and closing duties.
- Demonstrate cash register operation and money handling procedures.
- Prepare hot and cold food for retail sales.
- Set up for café sales, stock food and paper products.
- Practice food safety codes and governing standards; monitor and document food temperatures frequently.
- Notify Supervisor immediately of any food out of compliance.
- Monitor and document temperatures of freezers, refrigeration, and heating units.
- Maintain refrigeration units in clean, orderly condition compliant with food codes.
- Requisition, transport, and replenish foods and supplies; inspect items for integrity.
- Rotate stock, dispose of outdated or substandard products, and properly wrap, label, and date food items.
- Stock and clean refrigerated display cases inside and out.
- Prepare coffee, juice, and smoothies; replenish and clean beverage-dispensing machines and areas.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, including coffee serving and seating areas, equipment, storage, countertops, and cupboards.
- Clean and sanitize utensils and equipment; maintain signage daily.
- Follow proper cleaning techniques, store chemicals safely, and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
- Practice safety procedures, including using tools, equipment, and protective gear like wet floor signs.
- Use standardized and non-standardized recipes to prepare, create, and process foods.
- Assist in other areas as requested.
Requirements
- Must pass barista training within 2 months of hire.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and perform calculations.
- Restaurant or food service operations experience preferred.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three months of hire.
Physical Demands
- Constant (67%-100% of workday):
- Standing, particularly for sustained periods.
- Walking to accomplish tasks.
- Talking and hearing to exchange ideas and receive instructions.
- Lifting trays or pans of food (4” to 61” above floor level) and milk/juice cases (3” to 48” above floor level).
- Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Reaching in any direction.
- Frequent (34%-66% of workday):
- Pushing carts, racks, and bins.
- Pulling objects in a sustained motion.
- Grasping scoops, spoons, and dishes.
- Climbing onto stools to reach overhead.
- Stooping and crouching to obtain objects or clean lower areas.
Physical Requirements: Medium work, exerting up to 40 pounds maximum infrequently and/or up to 25 pounds frequently. Requires prolonged walking/standing.
Visual and Intellectual/Emotional Requirements
- Reading menus, recipes, and calculating food/supply amounts for requisition.
- Using measuring tools for portion control.
- Adaptability to repetitive work, stress, and changing tasks without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving/receiving instructions and maintain high standards of courtesy and cooperation.
- Ability to perform satisfactorily in a hospital work environment despite stress.
Tools and Equipment
- Grinding, brewing, and coffee dispensing equipment.
