Barista - Kafe Mera

About the role

Kafe Mera, a Greek-inspired specialty café in the heart of the Loop, is seeking experienced baristas to prepare high-quality coffee and beverage products while delivering exceptional customer service. This role involves operating coffee equipment, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and ensuring each guest has a positive experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso-based drinks, brewed coffee, teas, and specialty beverages according to recipes and quality standards (using a manual espresso machine)
• Take customer orders accurately and make menu recommendations
• Handle transactions using POS systems and process payments
• Restock ingredients, cups, lids, condiments, and merchandise
• Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, efficient service
• Regularly clean equipment, counters, and work areas
• Maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked café
• Additional duties as needed within the scope of the role

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience as a barista
• Current SERV Safe or equivalent food safety certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 pounds without assistance
• Ability to work in a fast-paced café environment for extended periods
• Must be able to perform repetitive motions, including mixing, stirring, and pouring
• The position requires flexibility to work early mornings
• Must be able to move safely through kitchen area, including slick floors and tight spaces
