About the Role
As a Barista for Porter Hospitality, you'll prepare and serve outstanding coffee beverages while educating customers about Onyx Coffee's distinctive flavor profiles and sustainable sourcing practices. You'll be the face of our café, creating memorable experiences for each customer.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and serves hot and cold beverages, such as coffee, blended coffee, and tea, customizing orders as requested.
- Describes product details to customers in partnership with Onyx Coffee.
- Receives and processes customer payments.
- Serves prepared baked goods including pastries.
- Ensures customer service stations are properly stocked with paper products or beverage preparation items.
- Cleans and sanitizes all equipment, utensils, dishes, and work areas.
- Cleans and sanitizes service and seating areas.
- Ensures proper functioning of freezers, refrigerators, and heating by routinely checking temperatures.
- Stocks supplies or retail products; may inventory, order, or receive products as directed.
- Accurately handles POS transactions and orders in a high-paced setting.
- Maintains a friendly and engaging attitude while interacting with customers and team members.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must successfully complete training in food preparation, food service skills, and customer service procedures.
- 1-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role, preferably within hospitality or food service.
- CA Food Handler’s Permit required.
- Experience working in both counter-service and full-service settings is a plus.
- Previous barista training or willingness to learn espresso and coffee preparation is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a team.
- Self-motivated and able to make decisions with minimal guidance.
- Experience with POS systems such as Toast, Square, or Shopify is a plus.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs with the ability to learn in-house programs.
- Ability to follow all safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices.
- Good memory to manage multiple orders and recall frequent patrons' preferences.
- Flexibility to work nights and holidays as required by business needs.

- Regularly required to talk or hear.

- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
- Regularly works with others face-to-face, over the phone, and via email in an office environment with moderate noise.
- Nature of work may require time spent out of the office; reliable transportation required.
- Periodically works outside and may work around moving objects, dust, and dirt.
Pay
Compensation range: $23-25/hour + tips.
