About the role
The Barista plays an integral part in creating a genuine moment of connection with the customer by discovering and responding to customer needs through clear and pleasant communication.
Responsibilities
- Make and serve specialty coffee, tea beverages, and other food items.
- Speak and interact with customers to understand and meet their needs.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized workstation in compliance with health and safety guidelines.
- Contribute to a positive team environment.
- Act with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promote the culture, values, and mission of the company.
- Provide excellent customer service at all times and promote positive morale.
- Communicate information to the Shift Supervisor and/or Store Manager to ensure a welcoming environment.
- Anticipate customer and store needs by evaluating the environment and customer cues.
- Follow all operational policies and procedures related to cash handling, including cash management and cash register policies.
- Adhere to all company rules, policies, and procedures, including those in the Associate Handbook.
- Maintain safety and security practices, including knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
- Perform other duties as assigned, provided the associate is capable.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with chain food and retail outlets preferred.
- Must be able to perform major life activities: standing, lifting, bending, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, and communicating.
- Must be able to push or pull 60 pounds unassisted and lift and/or carry 30 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to stand for eight hours, bend, stretch, and reach.
- Must be able to see and hear.
- Must possess basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Must be able to communicate with other associates and guests.
- Proficient written and verbal English skills.
- Ability to relate well with others and work flexibly within a team.
- Basic math skills for measuring ingredients and handling cash.
- Computer literate to operate property management systems: post charges, compute bills, collect payment, and make change.
- Ability to maintain organization of supplies, storage rooms, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a guest-ready work area.
- Ability to multitask, remain customer-service focused, and work under pressure while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays, and consistently arrive on time.
- Ability to solve customer issues professionally and maintain a hospitable attitude.
- Ability to learn quickly and work with limited direction.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Knowledge
- Standards of operation as required by the company and brand.
- Menu items: preparation and service.
- Local area shopping, dining, entertainment, and travel directions to assist guest inquiries.
- Daily hotel operations, including events, bulletin boards, and updates on procedures.
- Entire property, including staff, services, hours of operation, room types, locations, rates, and discounts.
Working Conditions
- Physical presence at the hotel is required; remote work is not an option.
- Standing and walking for long periods while maintaining a friendly, professional image.
- May be required to work any day or shift, including nights and weekends.
