About the Role

This position provides marine project support, supervising daily operations on a work barge to ensure all work is performed safely and efficiently. The incumbent collaborates closely with the Project Superintendent, Project (Field) Engineer, Safety Representative, Boat Captain, and various skilled craft persons, including Pile Drivers, Welders, Carpenters, and Laborers. Responsibilities

  • Work as assigned by the Project Superintendent to ensure successful completion of marine construction projects.
  • Oversee the movement of marine floating rigs between locations.
  • Receive and handle materials and equipment required for marine operations, including:
    • Pile driving
    • Marine loading arms
    • Stevedoring
    • Miscellaneous dock repairs
  • Ensure proper falsework is constructed when required.
  • Verify that all necessary permits are secured prior to activities and inspect equipment for proper operation.
  • Enforce Orion Safety Policies.
  • Train new workers on equipment and tools, and resolve work-related problems.
  • Maintain time records for the work crew and supervise/coordinate their activities.
  • Use positive/negative pressure respirators and/or SCBA respiratory equipment as required by job or contract.
  • Demonstrate safety knowledge related to chemical and process hazards, including:
    • Lockout/tagout
    • Confined space
    • Fall protection
    • Respiratory protection
    • Emergency action plans
    • CPR/First Aid procedures
  • Collaborate with the General Foreman, Crane Operators, Helpers, and other skilled crafts to complete projects safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure participation in Safety and Environmental initiatives to comply with State/Federal regulations and improve Company programs.
  • Adhere to all safety responsibilities, including stopping work for unsafe conditions and reporting violations.
  • Perform related administrative and technical duties as assigned (e.g., certification training, safety training, procedure reviews).
  • Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary or trade secret information.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of marine construction experience on a work barge or equivalent supervisory experience in marine construction.
  • Proficiency in receiving and handling equipment used for marine operations.
  • Knowledge of integrating various crafts (e.g., piledriving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting).
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and ability to maintain simple records of time and materials.
  • Commitment to observing and fulfilling all safety responsibilities.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Capability to wear and properly utilize PPE (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes).
  • Ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management.
  • Capacity to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately.
  • Physical ability to:
    • Move between job site locations, including boarding/disembarking work barges, boats, vessels, or docks of varying heights.
    • Stand, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, or sit for extended periods.
    • Climb vertical ladders up to 40'-50'.
    • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
    • Lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
    • Adapt to extreme temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure.
    • Evacuate work areas quickly in emergencies.
    • Drive passenger vehicles to visit work locations.
